Probability for earning at least median income by educational attainment and gender. This data was used in the analysis in Issues #187 January 2008. 2/6/2008

Pell Grant Shares of Undergraduate Enrollments in Leading Universities and 4-Year Colleges
This Excel workbook contains worksheets with data on Pell Grant recipients and undergraduate enrollments for leading universities and colleges for 1992, 1993, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
These leading institutions are grouped as: state flagship universities, US News top 50 national universities, US News top 50 national liberal arts colleges, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's), land grant colleges and universities, and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HISs). 12/4/2007

State Educational Attainment and Economic Welfare Measures 1989, 1991, 1993 to 2007
This spreadsheet explores the relationships between two measures of educational attainment in states with a variety of economic measures of individual and family welfare in those states.
The educational attainment measures for each state are: 1) the proportion of people 25 and over with at least a high school diploma, and 2) the proportion of the population age 25 and over with at least a bachelor's degree from college. These data are available for most years between 1989 and 2007. The correlations with high school graduation are highest with the employed/population ratio, poverty rate and median household income. The correlations with college graduation are highest with per capita personal income and median household income. 12/1/2007

This Excel workbook contains data that were collected by the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI). The Institute serves as an interdisciplinary center for research, evaluation, information, policy studies and research training in postsecondary education. We compared graduation rates within income quartiles by SAT scores for 1994 entering freshman cohorts. These graduation rates are broken down by institutional type, institutional control, and the selectivity of the institution (SAT scores). 6/20/2007

Male Shares of Undergraduate Enrollments in Postsecondary Institutions, 1992, 2001 and 2002
This Excel workbook shows the male share of undergraduate enrollments at each postsecondary institution in the state in the fall of 1992, 2001 and 2002.These data were collected from institutions by the National Center for Education Statistics in the annual fall IPEDS enrollment survey.
The male share of enrollments at each institution is compared to the male share of all undergraduate enrollments in the state to produce the Male Equity Index score and rank score for each institution. The Male Equity Index score is converted to a letter grade based on the grading curve shown in the table. 8/30/2006

Urgent College Attendance by State with Maps; 1992, 1994, 1996
These spreadsheets compare the number of first-time college freshmen who graduated from high school in the previous 12 months by state to the number of first-time college freshmen in that state for three years: 1992, 1994, 1996.
The resulting rationis the Urgent College Attendance Index and this Index is mapped by state. Data were collected and reported by the National Center for Education Statistics. 6/4/2004

Death Rates by Suicide Among 15 to 24 Year Olds by Gender 1900 to 2000
This data reports suicides for males and females ages 15 to 24 years old for 1900 through 2000.
The data reported includes both suicide rates (deaths per 100,000 population) for country for 1900 through 2000 and by race/ethnicity for selected years, and the numbers of suicides by gender and by state for 1998, 1999 and 2000. This data was collected and published by the National Center for Health Statistics and its predecessors. 5/27/2003

Private Economic Benefit/Cost Ratios of College Investment for Men and Women, 1966 to 2000
This Excel spreadsheet derives ratios of economic benefits to costs from a college investment decision for men and women over the period between 1966 and 2000.
The economic benefits of a college education is the annual income differential between a person with a bachelor's degree and another person with a high school diploma, multiplied by 40 years to approximate a working lifetime between ages 25 and 64. The cost of a college education is annual institutional charges--tuition, fees, room and board--multiplied by 4 years. The resulting ratios show high private returns to men and women, and that these returns have held up well over the last three decades. 7/28/2002

College Enrollment & Work Activity of Recent High School Leavers, 1959 to 2002
This Excel workbook contains worksheets with data on the college enrollment and employment status of people who were enrolled in high school a year earlier.
The leavers are surveyed in the October Current Population Survey by the Census Bureau, although the data are published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The leavers are classified into high school graduates and dropouts. The high school graduates are classified as enrolled in college or not enrolled in college. The labor force status is reported (employed, unemployed, not in labor force). The demographic classifications of the data are gender (maile, female) and race/ethnicity (white, black, Hispanic). 7/26/2002

By Family Income, Gender and Race/Ethnicity, 1996-2000
This Excel workbook summarizes as much as five years of data on high school graduation rates, college continuation rates and college participation rates for dependent 18 to 24 year olds by family income ranges, gender and race/ethnicity. The original data were collected by the Census Bureau in the October Current Population Surveys for 1996 through 2000, and published in the P20 series of Current Population Reports on school enrollments. 12/12/2001

Participation in Undergraduate Education for Population 25 and Over by State in 1998
This Excel workbook combined data fromthe fall 1998 IPEDS enrollment survey on undergraduate enrollments by age and state, with Census Bureau estimated of each state's population by age in 1998.
The result is undergraduate college participation numbers and rates by gender for each state in the fall of 1998 in the following age groups: 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50 to 64 years. This project was prepared jointly by the staffs of the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning and OPPORTUNITY. 12/5/2001
